Neck Masses

Neck Masses and Treatment

Neck masses can occasionally occur in the neck. Most neck masses are benign, but prompt evaluation by an otolaryngologist should be performed as cancer can occur in the neck. The general rule is if a neck mass persists for more than 10-14 days it should be carefully evaluated by one of our board certified otolaryngologists. This evaluation will begin with a thorough history and physical exam. Additionally a flexible laryngeal endoscopy may be performed. Radiographic imaging may be required involving either a CT scan or MRI of the neck soft tissues. Ultimately a needle biopsy of the neck mass may be required.
